About the Project
The Rockaway Community Pool is designed as a dynamic hub for recreation, education, and wellness. Serving as a year-round facility, it accommodates lifeguard training, swim lessons, and competitive events. Strategically located with easy access to public transportation, bike paths, and local amenities, the pool fosters an inclusive and active community space. This project was part of a proposal pitch under the NY Swims initiative.

Inspired by its proximity to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, the facade and rooftop design integrate with the natural environment. The green roof not only improves sustainability but also functions as a resting area for migrating birds. The structure balances modern aesthetics with ecological sensitivity, ensuring harmony between built and natural elements.
The exterior design promotes seamless movement, with open walkways, natural landscaping, and inviting communal areas. A mix of durable materials and warm tones complement the coastal setting, while ample glazing maximizes natural light. The interplay of organic forms and structured spaces enhances both functionality and visual appeal.
