Central Park Apartment
New York, NY

About the Project
StudioSC was commissioned by a family to completely re-envision a very compact midtown duplex apartment as a pied-a-terre for the family. An existing narrow spiral staircase was structurally opened up for a more ample sized, curved stair connecting both floors as a home and serving as the center piece of the design. All surfaces, lighting, windows, kitchen and bathrooms were redesigned to create a real sense of comfort within the small and narrow spaces.

EXISTING CONDITIONS
The original interior was marked by a narrow and confined layout, particularly the spiral staircase, which limited movement between floors. The redesign opened up the space, with a larger, elegantly curved staircase becoming a central feature. The proposed plan enhances the flow of light and movement, creating a much more spacious, welcoming atmosphere throughout.
The redesign features refined materials and finishes, with attention to soft, warm tones that contrast with crisp, modern lines. The ample curved staircase, enhanced by thoughtful lighting, draws attention as a centerpiece, while natural light fills the space. The materials are sleek but tactile, with an emphasis on comfort.
Inside, the open floor plans are tailored to contemporary living, with large windows maximizing daylight and fostering a connection to the outdoors. Light wood floors create an airy feel, while the neutral color palette ensures flexibility for residents to personalize their space. Modern kitchens and bathrooms, finished with clean lines and sophisticated fixtures, emphasize functionality without sacrificing style.
